I år er det 201 år siden den første fyrlinsa ble satt i drift. Den ble satt inn i det ikoniske fyret Le Cordouan i Frankrike i 1823. Kystverkmusea markerer 200 år med fyrlinser med denne kunstutstillingen Å søke seg fra mørke til lys–From Shadows to Beacons, der ni norske og internasjonale kunstnere viser spennende verk inspirert av oppfinnelsen av Auguste Fresnels fyrlinse. Vandreutstillingen er produsert av Nordkappmuseet ved kurator Emma Gunnarsson.

Fyrlinsen er i fokus som en rød tråd gjennom utstillingen. Hver kunstner har med ulike materialer og medier som lyd, lys, foto og skulptur funnet sin unike form. Gjennom individuelle refleksjoner på linsens rolle som en navigerende kilde i mørket, det mytologiske landskapet i nord, havets kraft og kystens lydlige landskap, gir man betrakteren muligheten til å oppleve lystes skiftende natur og dets påvirkning på sansene. Kunstnerne bidrar i dette prosjektet med sine perspektiver og metoder gjennom den nære tilknytningen til naturen som de viser i sine kunstnerskap. Gjennom kunstnernes verk blir fyrlykten et prisme for å lese kysten.

Utstillingen vises på Galleri Espolin i Kabelvåg i Lofoten, frem til 26.mai 2024.

From Shadows to Beacons: Exhibition with nine contemporary artists that explores the timeless force and power of light.

The artists let the viewer experience and reflect on the changing nature of light and its impact on senses, through various formats such as light, photography, film and sculpture.

200 Years of Lighthouse Lenses
It is 201 years since the first lighthouse lens was put into operation. It was installed in the iconic lighthouse Le Cordouan in France in 2023. The Museums of the Norwegian Coastal Administration highlights the 200 years anniversary with this exhibition that presents intriguing artworks inspired by the invention of Auguste Fresnel´s lighthouse lens. The exhibition is produced by the North Cape Museum, by curator Emma Gunnarsson.

The lighthouse lens is a focal point threading through the exhibition. Each artist, using various materials and media such as sound, light, photography, and sculpture, has found their unique expression. Through individual reflections on the lens´s role as a navigating source in the darkness, the mythological landscape of the north, the mighty sea, and the sonorous coastal scenery, the viewer is offered the opportunity to experience the shifting nature of light and its impact on the senses. With a close connection to nature in their work, the artists contribute their perspectives and methods to this project. Through the artworks, the lighthouse becomes a prism for interpreting the coastline.

The exhibition is on display until May 26th at the Espolin Gallery in Kabelvåg, in Lofoten.
